Whew, chile, Thanksgiving Day will be here before we know it. Since my child and I are going to be staying at home (all by our lonesome), that means the cooking will be EASY for me! Woohoo!!

We had plans to go over to a friend's house for Turkey Day but that has been derailed because some people still are fussing about wearing face masks and staying away from large crowds as much as possible. It's almost as if they don't want the coronavirus to go away. Those must be the sadists amongst us. Anyway, I am not letting this change of schedule affect the happiness I feel about Thanksgiving Dinner. I am ready to cook and chow down on some grub, just like my grandmamas, aunties, and cousins used to do back in the day.

My daughter, Willow, doesn't like my cooking. I asked her what she wanted me to make for Thanksgiving and she said she wanted "Asparagus, a truck load of asparagus."

I told her that was the saddest Thanksgiving Dinner I had ever heard of. I offered to cook her a deep-fried Cajun turkey, dressing, collard greens, cornbread, hot water cornbread, some candied yams, baked macaroni and cheese, and crunchy green bean casserole.

She looked at me and replied politely, "No, thanks."

Okay, Little Miss Gordon Ramsay! It is a BIT too early for Thanksgiving Clapback Season. She is such a hater! (I know my food tastes good. She just has bad taste buds!)

Anyway! As I was saying, I am in the mood to throw down in the kitchen and whip up an all-day-long Thanksgiving cooking spree, even if it means that now I am cooking for ONE.

Which begs the question, which do you prefer, candied sweet potatoes or candied yams? My dad would call it both things, even though he used sweet potatoes. Calling sweet potatoes 'yams': is that a Black people thang? Click here to find out the difference between the two.

I don't care what you call 'em, just put some brown sugar, a splash of dark rum, and some marshmallows on that thang and bake it!
