Scenes from the Marvelous Production of Beauty & The Beast Play at Selah Middle School
The 7th and 8th graders really showed up and showed out for their marvelous production of Beauty & The Beast at Selah Middle School on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. It was a delight to see and I am especially proud of the way their Drama teachers held the troupe together during pandemic back-to-school schedules.
I was once in a middle school play at Meigs Middle Magnet School where I grew up in Nashville, TN. Our group of 7th and 8th graders put on a production of Arsenic and Old Lace. I played one of the murdering sisters. I can't recall if I played Martha or Abby, but it doesn't even matter because what I remember the most is that it was SO MUCH FUN to be a part of a play!
The only reason I knew about this play performance in the first place is that the daughter and stepson of my great friend, Tiara, both had roles in the show. Kaya was a "Bimbet" and Townsperson and Kaleb was also a Townsperson. All of the student performers did an amazing job. Besides Kaya and Kaleb, I especially enjoyed the young person who played the role of pompous old Gaston's friend, LeFou. She has an amazing developing vibrato and I hope that we will see her star on Broadway someday! The set was AMA-ZING, too! I also enjoyed the student's portrayal of the Wardrobe, she was a funny Madame de la Grand Bouche, which translated to English means Mrs. Big Mouth! HAHAHA!
Selah Middle School dedicated their performances of the play to their dearly departed fellow classmate, Ariah Butler. That made me want to weep.
There will be 2 more performances of Beauty and the Beast at Selah Middle School, Thursday, February 24th at 6:30 and Friday, February 25th. Free admission to the play but if you can, bring a canned good or non-perishable food for the Food Bank donation boxes! Thank you, Selah Middle School for a wonderful time! <3 ~Reesha on the Radio
