Another event bites the dust due to COVID-19! One of the longest running community fair events is Naches Sportsman's Days, and is usually held the 2nd weekend in September at the Historic Depot Park in downtown Naches. This year it would have fallen on September 10th & 11th. This cancellation is a bummer, but better safe than sorry. It does come at kind of a surprise when other events like the Central Washington State Fair & Chinookfest are (as of this writing) planning on going ahead with their festivities.

The cancellation notice of Sportsman's Days was posted on the Naches Community Bulletin Board, stating simply "2021 Event is CANCELLED due to Covid-19 Precautions." The community fair started back in 1949. It benefited a number of different community and school organizations and was indeed fun for the whole family. The 2 day free event offered carnival games and rides. Live music and comedy, vendor booths, car show, kids events like fishing and archery, a parade and the annual lip sync competition.

This announcement is made even sadder, being that earlier this month (May 21st) marked the 100 year birthday of the little town that I grew up in. I would have loved to see what this year might have held. Let's all hope things clear up so my little hometown of Naches can bring the fun back in September of 2020!
