Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is coming out in a week(!), and as the last in a six-movie franchise, it’s the culmination of 15 years of zombies and Hives and Alices and Umbrella Corporations that we’ve grown up with. If you need a bit of a refresher before heading into the last installment — and it’s usually a good idea, since these movies tend to pick up pretty soon after the previous one left off — it can seem like a daunting prospect. That is, unless you have Milla Jovovich herself to recap the whole series for you in record time.

The movies are weird as all hell, and hearing Jovovich talk about them in such a casual manner is pretty surreal. But she does an excellent job of telling us the highlights of each of the previous five films as they escalate in weirdness and add new sci-fi tropes for every zombie that gets killed off. Tired of evil AIs and undead bat monsters? Here, have some clones!

How can Alice and her buddies hope to end all this? Well, as Jovovich says, “Sometimes it takes going back to the beginning to find the end.” Oooooooh.

And if you need a refresher about the last one, here’s the synopsis:

Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse. In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between regaining her superhuman abilities at Wesker’s hand and Umbrella’s impending attack, this will be Alice’s most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter opens in theaters January 27.
