Pump Track and Trolleys Keep City Leaders Busy

The Yakima City Council meets at 5:30 pm Tuesday at City Hall. It's a short agenda with two important presentations planned.

Yakima City Council members will hear presentations about Yakima Valley Trolleys

Council members will hear a presentation from Yakima Valley Trolleys which last month enjoyed having Santa Clause ride the trolley's. The local railroad is already on the National Register of Historic Places. Yakima Valley Trolleys are historic because there are no other electric interurban railroads left in America that still use all their original infrastructure, streetcars and locomotives.

The council will also get an update on a planned pump track at Randall Park

The council will also hear about and vote on a resolution to develop a bicycle pump track at Randall Park. A press release from the city says pump tracks typically feature a circuit of rollers and banked turns. They are designed to be ridden completely by “pumping,” generating momentum by up and down body movements, instead of pedaling or pushing.
As the state legislative session continues the council will also get an update on that work and the cities requests.

The city is preparing to receive more than $300,000 in funding to fight gangs

The city is looking for help with gang violence and council members will discuss a resolution ratifying a grant application to the Washington State Department of Commerce for funding to support Group Violence Intervention Strategies. In other words the city is expected to approve the resolution which would result in the city getting more than $300,000 in state grant funding to fight gang violence.

Every person entering City Hall, including those entering to attend a City Council meeting, are required to wear a face covering that covers their nose and mouth at all times. Masks will be available in the alcove at City Hall.

At 5:00 pm on Tuesday, January 18th, just prior to the regular meeting that same night, Council will hold an executive session regarding acquisition of real property.
