Person Dies After Being Struck by Semi on Highway 97

A person died after being struck by a semi-truck on U.S. Highway 97 near Wapato on Sunday.
The Washington State Patrol says the person, who hasn't been identified, was struck just before 2:00 a.m. Sunday while walking along the road. Patrol officials say the 53-year-old driver from Yakima was traveling southbound near Frontage Road when the accident happened. Officials say no drugs or alcohol were involved. No charges are expected.
The name of the person who was killed is expected to be released after the person's family has been notified.
