Memorial Gathering Turns Violent in Yakima
Yakima Police are searching for suspects in a gang related drive-by shooting Saturday that left three people with injuries. The three are now being described as family members of a Yakima woman who was killed in a one vehicle crash on Saturday morning. Officers were called to the area of Tieton Drive and Pleasent Avenue at about 7:50 pm Saturday for a call of shots fired in the area.
Police found three people injured at the gathering
When they arrived they found three people injured who were attending a memorial gathering for the woman who was killed in the car crash early Saturday. A man and a woman and a 15-year-old were taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. As of Sunday the man and woman were in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. The 15-year-old victim was in critical but stable condition.
No arrests have been made but they're developing leads
Yakima Police Detectives say they're developing information on a suspect or suspects and hope to make an arrest soon. As of Sunday no arrests have been made. Police are now investigating the incident as a gang related shooting.
The woman in the crash died at the scene
The 24-year-old Yakima woman who died on Saturday morning has not been identified. Authorities say the crash was reported at about 2:10 am near the area of South 46th Avenue and West Nob Hill Blvd. When Yakima Fire Department Firefighters found the vehicle it was on its side with the driver pinned under the vehicle. Yakima Police say "the driver lost control of the vehicle, striking a barrier wall and telephone pole on the side of the road before rolling multiple times and coming to rest in the road." The driver was not wearing a seat belt. The woman died at the scene of the crash. The crash and the shooting remain under investigation Today.
