is ‘Mike And Ike Thrill Ride’ The Candy Ride For Yakima?

It’s been a while since I’ve written a Timmy Tries food/drink review. No one particular reason for the long pause between me trying stuff, but I’ve been obsessed with a certain type of candy lately, and when my wife found a new version of it, one in particular flavor sparked my interest. So because of the new (at least new to me) Mike and Ike “Thrill Ride Mix”, we’re getting another Timmy Tries!

Just like my other articles (if you’ve never read one of my consumable reviews, you can find them all here), this candy is not an endorsement for or against this brand of candy. I bought it with my own money, and thought the flavor was interesting, and since this is the first time I’ve seen this brand’s candy flavor in Yakima, I thought I’d share its existence and my thoughts with you guys.

Mike And Ike Don’t Exist

Interesting fun fact about the Mike and Ike candies: they don’t exist. Well, the candy does obviously, but there was never a Mike or Ike, or at least their origins have never been disclosed by the parent company, Just Born; but the fictional duo has been making the good stuff for over 85 years.

The Thrill Ride Taste Test Of Mike & Ike Candies

I’ve been enjoying the different varieties of Mike and Ike candies for a while now, but I’m horrible; in fact, I just throw a mouthful (usually 5 or 6 pieces) in my mouth at once. I don’t worry about the flavor; they mesh well.

But with the Thrill Ride, I wasn’t so sure I could do that, hence why I’m writing this. In this box there are 5 flavors: Cotton Candy, Lemonade, Caramel Apple, Fruit Punch, and the one that caught my attention, Churro.

All the flavors taste as advertised, although the Caramel Apple tasted more like apple to me, but all great tastes that you might get at the fair. Then there was the Churro. Yes, you can get a churro at the fair, but for me, that taste just doesn’t fit in the group.

But I tried it, and it tasted like a churro! I was impressed. So I did what I normally do: I took a handful (one of each flavor). The churro definitely overpowered the others; the cotton candy gave a fight at the beginning, but when it was done, my mouth had a burnt butter aftertaste.

Final decision for me: They're good, but DO NOT ‘HANDFUL’ THESE CANDIES.

2nd Opinion Mike And Ike Thrill Ride Mix Taste Test

I did a little experiment with my co-worker Nikki. I had her try the churro one, only knowing that it was from a box called “Thrill Ride Mix”. She said it tasted like buttery popcorn, and reminded her of the Thanksgiving-flavored jelly beans.

After I told her how it was called “Churro Coaster,” she took another one and then could tell that it was supposed to be flavored after a churro.

I plan to do more research into the science of taste, and how much of our taste is what we are told to taste, versus the actual sensation our taste buds tell us. But that’s a project for another day.
