On Saturday mornings, I usually love to sleep in a few extra hours, but this past Saturday, I woke up at my usual early pre-6 a.m. time. Instead of going back to sleep, I hopped on my Facebook to see what people were talking about.

I checked the "Events" tab to see what shenanigans were afoot in Yakima that day, and I noticed a "Summer Panda Art Class" for kids. The hour and a half-long class was being held that morning at the Hobby Lobby (2203 S 1st St) art store. I clicked on the link to purchase my 7-year old daughter, Willow, a ticket, but the link said that sales had ended.

Thinking quickly, I grabbed the email of Rachel, the art class instructor, and sent a quick message asking if it was too late to enroll Willow in the class. Fortunately, Rachel had a spot for her!

Willow enjoyed the art class so much that she asked me if she could go to all of the art classes. Guess I have a budding Loïs Mailou Jones on my hands!

Costs for classes are $20 per child. For info on upcoming kids' art classes, contact instructor Rachel Lucas-Bertsch at artbyrachellucas@yahoo.com.
