Attention, thespians! The Warehouse Theatre Company in Yakima is seeking actors to audition for the upcoming fall presentation of Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning work "Our Town."

Are you a seasoned actor? New to the stage? Perhaps you graced the boards when you were in school until life got in the way and you haven't dabbled since. The latter is an apt description of my experience. A love of theater kept me engaged in school and for a couple of years thereafter. And then, career, family, a dog -- you know how it goes. When my kids caught the same theater bug while they were in high school, I thought, "Hey, that looks fun. I wonder if I can still do that?"

So, about a dozen years ago, I went to my first audition at the Warehouse Theatre. I admit, I was a bit nervous, but guess what? They were gracious enough to cast me in 'Arsenic and Old Lace' and the hook was set. More than a dozen WTC shows later, I've had the pleasure of serving on the Board of Directors, as well as appearing in plays, musicals, stage managing even directing 2013's "I Hate Hamlet," which was one of the last few shows staged at the Gilbert Park location on Lincoln Avenue.

As you may know, WTC now has its permanent location on 24th avenue and features an in-the-round performance space. It's a very intimate setting which is great for audiences to be up close and personal with the performers (audiences actually got wet during the sold-out run of "Singin' in the Rain"). As an actor on the square stage, one is provided both a challenge and an opportunity to go places and touch audiences in ways other performance venues won't allow.

So go ahead and take the plunge and audition for a show. Auditions for "Our Town" are Monday (Aug. 5) at 6 p.m. WTC asks that you arrive between 5:30 and 6 to register -- or pre-register online and get all of the details. I hope to see you there. Yeah, I think I just talked myself into auditioning.
