Yakima Driver Alert; More Road and Traffic Work This Week
Yakima city crews are very busy this summer with a lot of road and traffic signal work and it's impacting traffic. City crews get busy with water service repairs on Wednesday that will result in traffic restrictions on South 16th Avenue between Bonnie Doon Avenue and Nob Hill Boulevard. The work happens Wednesday, July 6th through Friday, July 8th. Work on the project will begin at 7:00 am and last until 3:30 each day. City officials say because of the work traffic will be limited to one lane in both directions in the project area. A press release says because of heavy traffic volumes on South 16th Avenue, drivers can expect delays. Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the work is completed.
Traffic signal upgrades continue this week in Yakima
Also on Wednesday, July 6 city crews are upgrading a traffic signal at the intersection of Yakima Avenue and Naches Avenue. Yakima officials say crews will be upgrading the traffic signal heads at the intersection from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm.
The traffic signal will not be in operation during the work hours. Traffic will be restricted to one lane each direction with stop signs at the 4-way stop.
Work on the Nelson Dam project continues this week and next week
Traffic will also be impacted this week as work continues on the Nelson Dam removal and replacement project. The work will result in temporary road closures over the next couple of weeks. Work scheduled to continue the next two weeks includes pouring concrete for a new fish screen structure. The work requires temporary closure of South Naches Road at Powerhouse Road. This closure will start at 6:00 am and end by 5:00 pm on the following dates:
Friday, July 8th
Thursday, July 14th
As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
