Weather Smoke Impacting Washington Apple Crop

Just about everything has been impacted by smoke and weather conditions this year including the Washington apple crop. Officials with the Washington Apple Commission say this year's crop will be about 10% smaller than predicted because wildfires and damaging windstorms impacted local orchards. Back in August the commission predicted a crop of 134 million 40-pound boxes. But that changed during the Labor Day weekend when winds knocked a lot of apples off of trees. The wind also helped grow wildfires that resulted in smokey hazy conditions that created unhealthy conditions for field workers.
