It's probably impossible to capture all of hip-hop's infinitely layered history in a single file, but that didn't stop a SoundCloud and YouTube account by the name of The Hood Internet from trying. Recently, The Hood Internet uploaded a video called "40 Years of Hip-Hop" a kaleidoscopic mashup of all the biggest songs the genre's produced over the last four decades.

The video features... well, just about everyone, ever. One moment you'll see The Notorious B.I.G. swaying to Missy Elliott's "Work It" instrumental while spitting bars from "Juicy"; the next, you'll see one of a pink-haired Nicki Minaj spitting her legendary "Monster" verse over Scarface's "My Block."

Indeed, the new mashup and visual offers up a perfectly concise bridge between all of the roughly 40 years rap's been a fully formed genre. There are an incalculable amount of rap documentaries out there, but if you want a quick way to educate someone about the genre, this video might be a good place to start.

Other artists included in the video include 50 Cent, A Tribe Called Quest, Afrika Bambaataa, Audio Two, AZ, Beastie Boys, B.G., Big Pun, Biz Markie, Black Rob, Black Sheep, Blackstreet, Bobby Shmurda, Boogie Down Productions, Busta Rhymes, Cali Swag District, Cam'ron, Chamillionaire, Chance The Rapper, Clipse, Common, J-Kwon, Jadakiss, Jay Electronica and Jay Z. There are many more, but we'll let you pick them out for yourself.
