I admit it. I want to save the world. I want to do away with people hating other people because of their religious beliefs, they way they look or what color their skin is. My parents taught me to never care about any of that.

My mom used to tell me that it is what is inside the person that matters. She used to tell me to close my eyes and listen to the person talk. Don't worry about what they look like. My mom and dad were the smartest people alive. It bothers me that when people do studies to find who needs what in this world, it is so often the poor African-American, Hispanic and other minorities who lack in things.

I will never understand it.

That's why programs like this one, which was set up by Olympic swimmers to help teach minority kids to swim, are really needed in our valley.

What do you think?
