Virginia Mason Memorial Hosts Red Cross Blood Drive

We've all heard the Public Service Announcements - Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood.  Donating blood can save a life, or even several if your blood is separated into its components — red cells, platelets and plasma — which can be used individually for patients with specific conditions.  But does that knowledge nudge you into action?

The medical community says the need for blood is made even more urgent now by a nationwide shortage due to a national winter of severe weather that forced the cancellation of hundreds of blood drives across the country.

On Thursday, March 5, 2020, Virginia Mason Memorial will host a blood drive from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Classrooms A and B on the lower level of the hospital, 2811 Tieton Drive. Eligible blood donors are people ages 17 and older who weigh at least 110 pounds and are generally in good health.

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.

Donating blood is a quick and simple way to give back to the community. Donors will also receive a free refillable water bottle.
