With a cold snap forecast for this weekend and expected high temperatures expected to only get up to around 10 degrees, you may be wondering what is the "coldest day" in Yakima history.

Since records have only been kept since 1947 at the Yakima Air Terminal (because so many people live at the airport!) it is impossible to know exactly what THE coldest day in the city has ever been. In the last 70 years, however, there is a tie for "Coldest Maximum Temperature", or, "Lowest High".

Five. Yup. Five degrees. As in, 27 below freezing. For the "high".

This occurred in 1950, 1957 and again in 1974. Rounding out the Top 5 are 1982's temp of 9 and it heated up to 10 in 1969.
