Tuesday was election day in the Mabton, Selah and HIghland School Districts. The Yakima County Auditor Charles Ross says results from Tuesday show voters supported the Selah and Highland replacement levies.

NOT ENOUGH VOTERS WERE CONVINCED IN MABTON

However in Mabton the same outcome that happened last year may happen again this year. Voters in Mabton were being asked to support a $12.8 million bond to pay for upgrades the junior senior high school. The issue needs a 60% supermajority to pass but that didn't happen on Tuesday. The latest results show 51.01% of voters in Mabton support the issue on the ballot.

THE SELAH AND HIGHLAND ISSUES NEED ONLY SIMPLE MAJORITIES

District officials in Selah and Highland were asking voters for support for levies. In Selah voters were asked to support a replacement levy at a cost of $1.65 per $1000 of assessed property. So far 52.65% of voters are supporting the measure.
In Highland district officials were hoping for support for a 4-year replacement levy at a cost of $1.77 per $1,000 of assessed value. 60.42% of voters are supporting the levy. Both need simple majorities to pass.

WHEN THERE'S A LOW TURNOUT ISSUES STRUGGLE ON THE BALLOT

Auditor Charles Ross says the small turnouts make it tough for issues to pass including issues in Mabton. Mabton officials tried floating the bond last year but it only received 53% support. District officials in Mabton were hoping this time more people would support the bond. More ballots will be counted Wednesday afternoon in the Yakima County Auditor's Office. Ross was predicting a 25% turnout. As of Tuesday night the turnout was 24.52%.
