Should Women Be Forced to Register for the Draft? [POLL]
A federal judge in Texas says that not allowing women to register for the draft is against the Constitution of the United States.
The draft for all U.S. males ages 18 to 25 went into effect in 1980 under the orders of then-President Jimmy Carter. In 2015, rules banning women from combat in the military were rescinded, which cleared the path for women to be legally mandated to register for the draft.
Women are required to register for the military in other countries, such as Israel, Norway, North Korea, and Bolivia. (Great Britain ended its forced draft for single women ages 20-30 in 1945.)
