Fresh from its premiere at the Venice Film Festival (where it won the second place trophy) and screenings at the Toronto Film Festival, here is the trailer for Nocturnal Animals, the newest film from director Tom Ford. This follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2009 movie A Single Man features an excellent cast, with Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal as the two leads, and immaculately stylish cinematography. (What else would you expect a world-renowned fashion designer?)

Adams plays an art-gallery owner who receives a manuscript from her ex-husband (Gyllenhaal) in which the character clearly inspired by her (and played by Isla Fisher in scenes from the book-within-the-film) meets a horrible fate. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Armie Hammer, Laura Linney, and Jena Malone all also appear, and Michael Shannon co-stars a mustache attached to a police detective. Here’s the official synopsis:

From writer/director Tom Ford comes a haunting romantic thriller of shocking intimacy and gripping tension that explores the thin lines between love and cruelty, and revenge and redemption. Academy Award nominees Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal star as a divorced couple discovering dark truths about each other and themselves in Nocturnal Animals.

Our own Erin Whitney saw Nocturnal Animals at TIFF and gave the film a mildly positive review, comparing it to No Country for Old Men, praising Amy Adams’ performance (who also has Arrival coming this fall), and writing that while it “doesn’t have much substance ... its dazzling style is hard to completely resist.” Nocturnal Animals opens in theaters on November 18, 2016.
