Juneteenth Is Here: Event Happenings in Yakima for Friday (6/19)
Friday, June 19th is Juneteenth in America! Happy Juneteenth!
The Yakima County NAACP is celebrating this day of Black independence by hosting a Freedom Ride caravan of cars and motorcycles.
Everyone will start meeting up in the parking lot of the Central Lutheran Church (1604 W Yakima Ave) at 5:45 p.m. and the caravan takes off at 6 p.m. Once the caravan has reached the parking lot of the Henry Beauchamp Community Center, riders will be encouraged to tune in from their phones for a "live" podcast show with local veteran and Yakima County NAACP President, Staff Sargeant James Parks.
There are some cool local t-shirts available from representatives of the Yakima County NAACP at the Freedom Ride (Adult sizes XS-1X are $15 each; sizes 2X-4X are $20 each). I also saw this cool t-shirt on Amazon.com on the Juneteenth Melanin Co. page.
On Saturday, June 20th, the Yakima County NAACP will host a "Juneteenth Movie Night Watch Party" for the movie, Just Mercy, starring Jamie Foxx and Michael B. Jordan. Click here to join the watch party at 7 p.m.
