I'm not even a soccer enthusiast, but this is exciting news to share with you about a World Cup event that will be held right here in the city of Yakima!

As Fox13 Seattle reports, the mayor of Yakima has revealed that the city has been chosen to host a Fan Zone in honor of the FIFA World Cup.

This will be a huge boost to creating a positive image of "The Palm Springs of Washington" because of all the families and soccer fans coming from all over Yakima County to experience the Fan Zone Event.

What Is a World Cup Fan Zone?

FOX 13 Seattle, an official 2026 FIFA World Cup broadcast carrier, is collaborating with the organizing committee to help Washington towns create Fan Zones.

Fan Zones will be uniquely different but will include the basic element of fun watch parties for soccer fans.

 

When is the 2026 FIFA World Cup?

The FIFA World Cup comes back around in 2026. Forty-eight teams will battle it out for the big Cup in three different countries.

Sixteen cities in America will host the games, including one in Washington State. Seattle will host games from June 11 through July 19, 2026**, as the Kitsap Sun reports. This gives Yakima County the perfect chance to be one of the Fan Zones!

Washington State Cities Hosting 2026 Seattle World Cup Fan Zones

According to Yahoo! Sports, the following nine cities in Washington have been identified as Fan Zone Cities:

  • Bellingham

  • Bremerton

  • Everett

  • Olympia/Lacey

  • Spokane

  • Tacoma

  • Tri-Cities

  • Vancouver

  • Yakima

**Other American cities that will be hosting World Cup games include Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Miami, Boston and New York.
