Own Property in Yakima? Get Ready for Assessed Value Notices
If you're a property owner here come Yakima County Assessed Value Notices in the mail from the Yakima County Assessors Office. A press release from the office says the "combined valuation and new construction notices will show the values as determined by the County Assessor as of January 1st, 2023."
YOU HAVE AN AVENUE OF APPEAL IF YOU DISAGREE WITH THE NOTICE
Officials at the assessors office say if you disagree with the determined value you can appeal the valuation to the Board of Equalization.
They say an increase property valuation doesn't always correspond to rising taxes. The Yakima County Assessor, Jacob Tate says they've analyzed thousands of sales through multiple years to determine the current values.

“Yakima County had a vibrant real estate market in 2022, and the 2023 market, while slower, is continuing to show increases in value. A quick way to verify what prices are doing on an individual property basis is to compare the change in # of sales with the change in volume."

Tate says they use a lot of current market information to determine market values but he says they may not always have all the information for each property or sale. He urges you to contact the office if you feel your value is incorrect "we do not set market value, we interpret it through sales that have already occurred and are always required to look backward."
