How to Celebrate Earth Day in the Yakima Valley 2021
We're all in this together, sounds cheesy but when you break it down, it's true. We only have this one planet we inhabit so it's important to treat her right.
I've seen those funny memes where people will be celebrating the Earth's birthday today. She's 2021 years old, no! Loads and loads older like 4.543 billion for your information.
Celebrate with a Fundraiser
You could start a fundraiser through EarthShare Washington Gift it in someone's honor, encourage your corporate team or all your friends to take the Earth Day Challenge!
Get or Gift Some Jewelry for a Great Cause
There are these super cool bracelets I've seen that you can purchase.
Every 4ocean product purchased comes with our One Pound Promise to pull one pound of trash from the ocean, rivers, and coastlines. Every purchase helps fund our global ocean cleanup operation and supports a growing movement to end the world’s reliance on single-use plastic.
You can buy one that stands for turtles, sharks or purchase cups or reusable wooden utensils.
Start the Process of Reusing and Repurposing
Speaking of reusable, have you ever purchased metal straws to reuse? The plastic ones get stuck in turtles' noses, so sad and there is a way to help reduce that. You could head to Grocery Outlet or Inklings Bookshop to grab a number of reusable items to add to your daily routines. I purchased some dryer balls to help cut back electricity and they really work.
Ever thought of purchasing items to begin reducing waste in your home? I started using Mighty Stitch, where each month I am sent a new item to swipe out things like dryer sheets, paper towels, and sandwich bags. It feels good to know that you are making a difference.
Get Your Hands Dirty
You could also head to Country Farm and Garden and pick a tree to plant in honor of creating more oxygen for our planet.
Lowe's is wrapping up their month of freebies on the 27th by giving away butterfly houses if you register yourself. You could buy a pack of wildflowers that encourage pollination
Keep Yakima Clean
Join the movement of volunteers on Facebook as they set out to clean up areas of our Valley that need it most. Their next event has just been announced for the end of the month.
