Did You Know Father’s Day Started Right Here In Washington State?
Here's a couple of fun facts about Father's Day! It was first proposed by a woman from Washington state named Sonora Smart Dodd, who wanted to create a Mother's Day for dads. And because of her, Washington held the first Father's Day on July 19, 1910.
It didn't become an official holiday until 1972, when President Nixon declared it a holiday. Mother's Day, on the other hand, was made official in 1914.
So Washington state, before it was famous for Microsoft and Amazon, was famous for Father's Day. That's pretty cool! Read more here.
