In 2011 the city of Yakima started using the E Verify system for hiring, vendor services and contracts. According to a city news release the resolution in 2011 requires "contractors and vendors for general services contracts over $2,500,  and Public Works Contracts over $5,000, to enroll and participate in the E- verify program when hiring their employees, and to affirm enrollment and participation to the City."
Under the resolution the city also uses the system to hire new employees. On Tuesday the council will be talking about the 2011 resolution and how the system has been working for Yakima.
In other business council member Kay Funk has requested a written letter from the city that details what meetings she can and cannot attend. Earlier this year Funk was sanctioned by the council for acting inappropriately as a council member. As a result Funk is barred from serving on city board assignments for six months. Funk is requesting some clarification.
The council next Tuesday will also issue a proclamation declaring the month of June as LGBTQ Pride month.
The council meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 at Yakima City hall.
