The Yakima City Council on Tuesday is expected to recognize December 21 as National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day during the regular city council meeting on Tuesday. According to a proclamation from the city 22,000 people were counted as homeless in Washington State this year. 228 people were found to be homeless in Yakima County with another 410 in either emergency shelters or transitional housing. 40 people in that homeless or sheltered population have died in Yakima County this year.
The proclamation will be made at the Yakima city council meeting Tuesday at Yakima City Hall. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m.
