Calling All Warrior Women: 5K Run Set For October Date At Franklin Park
The Facebook invite for the Warrior Women 5K Run has over one thousand people interested in attending the event that's set for October 28th, at Yakima's Franklin Park (2101 Tieton Drive), from 9am to 12pm.
What exactly is the Warrior Women 5K Run?
Great question, and I have the answer!
If you are a woman or self-identify as a woman, you are cordially invited to sign up for the race around the perimeter of Franklin Park. This is the "first ever women-only running event" in Yakima, hosted by Warrior Women Run, a group "for all the warrior women who have survived and fight through every battle that has come their way and still standing strong."
You don't have to run if you don't want to: walking and jogging options are available for the race.
This will be a fun day in the park, even if you are not running in the race. Food trucks and retail vendors will be on site, as well as many people cheering on their girl friends and family members. This is a family-friendly event; children above the age of 8 years old are welcome to participate as an individual or a team member! There is a $7 entry fee per child (must be between ages 8yrs and 15yrs old by October 28).
Girls ages 15+ can participate in the race by signing up as an individual or as a team member by clicking here. Individual registration: $35; Group Discount 4 or more $30 each, 8 or more $25 each. Entry fee prices will go up after Saturday, September 30th, so hurry up to register!
Part of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the YWCA Purple Purse Campaign, which officially begins on Monday, October 2nd.
