Authorities May Never Know The Motive In Tuesday’s Killings
Yakima Police continue to investigate Tuesday's shooting at the Circle K store at 18th Street and East Nob Hill Blvd. Three people were killed by the gunman, 21-year-old Jarid Haddock who then took his own life hours after the attack. We have learned the names of the three people killed in the deadly shooting. Court documents say they are 54-year-old Jeffrey Howlett, 40-year-old Nikki Godfrey and 65-year-old Roy Knoeb Jr. autopsies on all the bodies are expected to be finished today. Police say Howlett was shot in his vehicle at near the gas pumps. The other two died after being shot inside the store.
Autopsies are set for the Wednesday and Thursday
Yakima County Coroner Jim Curtice says an autopsy will not be performed on Haddock but toxicology tests will be taken to determine if Haddock was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the killings. Curtice says autopsies will be performed on the three victims this week and should be finished by the end of the week.
Did police know Haddock before the Tuesday attack?
As Yakima Police continue to investigate the triple homicide they say the suspect Jarid Haddock had a history of drug use and a history of contacts with police on a variety of issues. His mother, talking to police as they were searching for him also warned officers he had access to several guns including an assault rifle.
Murray says they hope to find a reason behind the killings but at this point he says they have no idea and call it a random attack.
The Chief says it's tough to stop these kind of surprise attacks
Because it was a random attack Murray says there's really no way to prevent another attack. He also says the way the shooting happened even a trained professional with a gun may not have been able to prevent the shooting.
Police hope to answer some unanswered questions in the future but the reason behind the attack may never be known.
