5 Reasons to Watch The RAZZIE Awards On TV This Year
We had a little bit of fun watching the Oscars, but I'm a little bit miffed that one of my favorite movies didn't win the category I wanted it to (1917), plus Cynthia Erivo didn't win any award.
Enter the 40th annual award show of "The Razzies", stage left. Now that all of the Oscars hoopla has come and gone, it is time to acknowledge the elephant in the room--the WORST movies, actors, actresses, and screenplays of the year.
If you don't know what the Razzies are, it's short for the Golden Raspberries Awards.
The Razzies have never been televised before, but they will for 2020! (See the full list of nominees for the 2020 Razzie Awards here.)
In case you are still confused about the name of the awards show, a raspberry is the sound you make when you stick out your tongue and go "Thhhhht!" You might even turn your thumb upside down whilst you do it, and boy, do the Razzie Awards do it!
No date has been announced for the awards show, but gossipy birdies in the forums are speculating that it will air sometime in March. You can bet I'm going to watch. I could use a good chuckle! Does anyone know how I can become a voting member?
These five categories alone give me enough reasons to watch The Razzie Awards on the Comedy Dynamics channel this year:
- 1
WORST PICTURE:
Cats, Madea's Family Funeral, and Rambo: Last Blood are amongst the nominees. Dang, this is a tough category. I say the ones I listed above should have a three-way tie for the worst!
- 2
WORST ACTRESS:
I am rolling over here laughing that Tyler Perry is nominated for his roles in Madea's Family Funeral for worst actress. That's cold.
Also nominated for the worst actress: Anne Hathaway in The Hustle, and Rebel Wilson in The Hustle.
I haven't seen The Hustle, so I'm going to have to go see it immediately! I could use a good chuckle.
- 3
WORST SUPPORTING ACTOR:
Why did Tyler Perry get nominated TWICE in this category? Too funny! His roles as "Joe" and "Uncle Heathrow" in Madea's Family Funeral got him a 40% chance to win this category.
- 4
WORST ON-SCREEN COMBO
Singer/Actor Jason Derulo got nominated for a Razzie in the category for Worst Screen Combo--against himself! They nominated him for his role in the movie Cats alongside his CGI "bulge" in the movie Cats!
You couldn't pay me to go watch the movie Cats, even though my middle-age heartthrob, Idris Elba, is in the movie, too. Sorry, not sorry!

RAZZIE REDEEMER:
One of the funniest categories I think makes for a great reason to watch the Razzies on TV this year is the "Razzie Redeemer".
Somehow the Razzie voters determined that Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, Keanu Reeves, Will Smith, and Jennifer Lopez have redeemed themselves with their movie performances in 2019.
Adam Sandler made a lot of noise with an applauded performance in the move, Uncut Gems. I haven't seen it, but I've heard it's a good movie.
Why is Will Smith on there? He has consistently put out some great movies, with the exception of all of the Men In Black ones. (I really loved his performance in Gemini Man; if you haven't seen it, DO IT soon!)
