Cinnabon Deletes + Apologizes for Carrie Fisher Tweet: ‘We Are Truly Sorry’
Like the vast majority of mourners lamenting the sudden loss of Fisher, the company employed Twitter to remember the late actress, writing, “RIP Carrie Fisher, you’ll always have the best buns in the galaxy.”
The caption accompanied a drawing of Fisher’s iconic Star Wars role Princess Leia Organa, done in cinnamon shavings according to CNN, with a cinnamon bun sitting in for her famous (and famously loathed by Fisher) hair style.
Cinnabon deleted the tweet after some users accused the brand of using Fisher's tragic death as a marketing ploy, but the Internet never forgets:
Cinnabon later apologized for the insensitive post, writing, "Our deleted tweet was genuinely meant as a tribute, but we shouldn't have posted it. We are truly sorry."
News of Fisher's death broke yesterday, when her daughter confirmed it in a statement via family spokesman Simon Halls. It reads, “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
Fisher was 60 years old.
