Drop Some Cash Into a Red Kettle and You Can Change a Life
It's time to drop some money in a Salvation Army Red Kettle. Volunteers are now ringing bells at area stores hoping you'll help the Salvation Army help others. You'll find the kettles at 17 different locations in the community including at Yakima Theaters. You can also donate online at yakima.salvationarmy.org
The Red Kettle Campaign raises a lot of money that stays in Yakima
Each year during the holidays the Yakima Salvation Army raises needed funding through its Red Kettle Campaign. The campaign raises more than $100,000 each season with all the money staying in the Yakima Valley to be used to support the Salvation Army of Yakima’s food bank, student food security services, family services, various Christmas assistance and year round youth programming.
The kettles are at 17 different locations in Yakima
Specifically you'll find the kettles at all three Wrays Market Fresh IGA Stores, East Walmart, Safeway, Hobby Lobby, Cabellas, Fred Meyer, Bi-mart and Rosauers.
You can also donate to the Toys for Tots Program
Lisa Sargent is the Community Engagement Coordinator who says they're also collecting toys for the Marines Toys for Tots Program. She says they hope to fill collection boxes by December 10 so they can prepare to distribute toys to families before Christmas. The collection boxes are located in many different locations including many department stores in the Yakima area. You can also drop off your donation between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm Monday through Friday at the Salvation Army office at 310 North 16th Avenue.
Sargent says it's a big job collecting the toys, separating them into age brackets and then distributing them to families. The reason why they need volunteers every year. If you'd like to help this Christmas season find information at yakmia.salvationarmy.org.
