An immigrant rights rally is planned for Monday at the Millennium Plaza in downtown Yakima. The rally starts at 5:00PM. Organizers with OneAmerica and the Washington Immigration Solidarity Network say the Yakima rally is one of many planned for around the state.

RALLY ORGANIZERS WANT A PATH TO CITIZENSHIP

Those at the rally, like many rallies in the past will call on President Joe Biden to create an immigration plan that calls for a path to citizenship for those already in the country.
The plaza is located on South 3rd Street in downtown Yakima .
The organizers, while fighting for a path to citizenship are celebrating a recent settlement with Yakima County. The county and OneAmerica reached the settlement after the group sued saying the county election system was unfair to Latinos.

NEW BOUNDARIES ARE ON THE WAY AS A RESULT OF THE SETTLEMENT

The settlement means the county has a lot of work ahead. County officials are now redrawing the three county commission boundaries that each commissioner represents. One of the districts must be a Latino majority. After the boundaries are redrawn the three commission seats will be up for election under the new boundaries in 2022.

THE ADMINISTRATION HAS A LOT OF IMMIGRATION ISSUES ON THE FRONT BURNER

Obviously immigration hasn't been on the front burner for the Biden administration other than allowing thousands of people to stream into the country through the southern border. Vice President Kamala Harris has been silent in her work to secure the border and many are wondering how the administration will deal with the thousands of people who are coming into the country illegally many who are not vaccinated against COVID-19.
