A Yakima radio host and community volunteer is declaring her candidacy for the 14th District State Senate seat currently held by Curtis King, R-Yakima.

Reesha Cosby, a Democrat, was expected to announce her run for office Tuesday (March 3) during a 5:30 p.m. event, at Single Hill Brewing, 102 N. Naches Ave. Cosby, host of MEGA 99.3 FM is an active volunteer and in 2019 was elected to serve a term as the president of the board of YWCA Yakima.
For the past 13 years, Cosby has also served with Junior League of Yakima, Junior Leagues of Washington State, 11th Ave Ballet (Art In Motion), the Seasons Performance Hall and the Yakima Schools Foundation. In 2019, Cosby joined the Safe Yakima Youth Coalition as a committee member, and became a member of the NAACP Yakima Chapter.
She describes herself in a news release as a "woman who is ready to lead and to use her voice in the Senate legislature for the people in her district, especially when it comes to funding for additional children’s mental health providers in public elementary schools, multi-lingual education to begin including Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL) for ALL kids, expanded Workforce Education to include child care vouchers and education grants for low-income single-parents in underrepresented higher-wage industries, better cell phone tower and Wi-Fi service in rural areas, cleaner soil and water for area farmers, agricultural worker protections, and increased protection for community residents from their domestic abusers."
