When the Yakima City Council meets Tuesday night the council will hear from interim Yakima Police Chief Gary Jones and his plan to get more involved with the public in 2019. Jones is expected to release a plan for community policing. "Specific officers will be assigned to specific patrol beats where people will know exactly who's patrolling their neighborhoods."
Jones says over the last five years the Yakima Police Department has been linking up with people through the coffee with a cop program and city neighborhood forums. This plan is to place specific officers in specific areas so people can get to know officers.

the city council on Tuesday will also consider approving a feasibility study for a outdoor pool at Martin Luther King Jr.Park.
Other actions the council is expected to take include authorizing acceptance and execution of a TIB grant for construction of the North 1st Street Revitalization Project, Phase 1 and authorizing the formation of a City of Yakima Coordinated Community Response Team to help clean up areas and create a sense of community pride.
The council meets at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Yakima City Hall.
