Yakima Valley Libraries Executive Director Kim Hixson has posted an update on the library's official website clarifying some common questions they are receiving while still being shuttered under the Governor Inslee’s Stay-at-Home order.

If you are someone that frequents any one of the many branches throughout the valley, you might be getting concerned if you will be penalized for borrowed materials that you have had in your possession since we went into a lockdown mode. Fear not. According to the site, "All Library locations are closed until further notice. Holds and item due dates have been further extended through 7/31/2020. Please keep your Library materials for now and don’t worry, we won’t suspend your account or charge you for late items. Please check back here to see our latest updates. You can also find out more about our response to the coronavirus outbreak at https://www.yvl.org/healthandsafety."

The update also includes information on why the library is not providing curbside service, when they will be allowed to re-open and how they plan to sanitize the building and materials once back in business.

Until then, you will have to find one of the numerous Little Free Libraries throughout the valley. If you're not familiar, keep your eyes peeled for these.

Oh, and PLEASE do not try to sanitize or disinfect your books by putting them in the microwave!
