Yakima City Crews Busy With Signal Upgrade Wednesday

Another day in the city of Yakima and another signal upgrade on Wednesday in a popular area of Yakima that could impact your commute. Yakima city crews have been busy this summer with road and signal work and the work continues on Wednesday, August 31. You may want to readjust your plans.

The work is happening at Yakima Avenue and 6th Avenue

Crews on Wednesday will be upgrading the traffic signal at the intersection of Yakima Avenue and 6th Avenue. That means the traffic signal will not be working from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday. A press release from the city says "Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction with stop signs at the 4-way stop." Remember the 4-way-stop rule you learned in drivers education?
The work is part of an ongoing project in the city this sumer. The improvements include upgrading to larger, more efficient 12-inch LED signal heads. The new lights are easier for drivers to see and they call for less maintenance.

A lot of different work is underway this summer in other areas

Other work is happening in the city including work by the Nob Hill Water Association. That work is happening this week on Summitview from 40th to 48th Avenue. Traffic restrictions are in place.
Be careful if you're driving through the construction zones. Drivers are reminded the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the city of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.
