What Are America's Top Taco Towns?

Well ok, maybe four cities do, but according to a search conducted by apartment hunter website Rent.com, Yakima makes the top five list!

Here's how.  The study says, "Cities were ranked based on a weighted scoring system using three categories: Mexican restaurants per square mile, Mexican restaurants per capita and as a proportion of all restaurants within the city."

And so here we are, eating Tacos on a Tuesday in Yakima!

I know that you know what Taco Tuesday is all about - like my last Taco Tuesday lunch Special at Little Dutch, 214 N 6th Ave, for example. Aaaannnd of course a ton of other great places including authentic Mexican Taco Trucks.

Why Foodies Love Yakima's Tacos

So what did the study authors conclude about Yakima?

"Located in Central Washington, Yakima Valley is best known for its wineries and apple orchards. And while we're a big fan of both, we're also incredibly fond of the city's taco spots. To sample the city's lesser-known bounty, start at Tacos El Rey for fresh-made tortillas stuffed with adobada, asada, carnitas — or try tongue, head or tripitas.  If you're in the mood for a traditional taco combo, you can't go wrong at El Rinconsito. And if you like your tacos with a side of tequila, look no further than Xochimilco."

Pretty cool huh?  We even have a Taco Festival - if Covid would get out the way so we can do it!

Where Does Taco Tuesday Come From?

So where does the whole Taco Tuesday thing come from?  The pros at backyard taco.com say it's tough to say but their research says Texas in the 1930's.

"the earliest reference to this tradition can be found in the El Paso Herald-Post, under the classifieds section of the paper. In October 1933, White Star Cafeteria created a weeklong campaign in order to let locals know that they were offering “Mexican tacos” each Tuesday."

And the rest is tasty Taco history!

And The Top Taco States Are?

The top three Taco States will be no surprise but number four might not be expected.

#4  Cicero, Illinois

#3  Miami, Florida

#2  Mission, Texas

#1  Huntington Park, California
