Yakama Nation Gets Ready for the 163rd Annual Commemoration of the Treaty of 1855
The Yakama Nation is a sovereign tribe occupying one of the biggest reservations in the state of Washington. Just like every other tribe in the country, it is a federally recognized tribe. On June 9, 1855, the tribe signed its treaty with the U.S. government.
And it is also my home tribe. If you didn't know, I am an enrolled member of the Yakama Nation. And now you know!
A few events are taking place this weekend to commemorate the treaty of 1855 -- from the Miss Yakama Nation pageant (which will be at the Yakama Nation Agency in Toppenish) to the parade at the Cultural Heritage Center (CHC).
In White Swan there will the All Indian Rodeo and the Pow Wow at the White Swan Pavilion. People have traveled from all across the country to enjoy all these events. And the public is invited to attend all the events.
