Could We Use Astria Hospital to House COVID-19 Patients?
I live near the old Astria Hospital and seeing it sit there empty and unused breaks my heart. I think about all of the employees who had to be let go when the hospital group declared bankruptcy, and I think about all of the empty hospital rooms that could be used to help house patients diagnosed with the coronavirus.
The Yakima Heral- Republic just reported that the former CEO of Astria has offered up the abandoned facility for sale or for lease to the state of Washington in hopes that COVID-19 victims might have a place to recuperate and be treated.
The building has 80 beds and could house up to 118 patients, the Herald reports.
I certainly hope that Washington will purchase the old St. Elizabeth/Regional/Astria hospital and put it to great use, especially now that we need it during the Coronavirus Lockdown of 2020!
