Out of the 50 states, Washington came in 10th place overall. The ranking is based on how the state stacks up for health and safety, family fun, education and affordability. Even better, Washington state has the second lowest rate of infant mortality.

The best place to raise a family is Minnesota, followed by Massachusetts, North Dakota, Vermont and New Hampshire.

If you're looking to start a family, avoid New Mexico, which came in last, followed by Mississippi.
