History does, indeed, repeat itself.

Just  a couple days before the anniversary of the US claiming its independence from the British, the American Women's Soccer team again used a shot heard 'round the World Cup to advance to the 2019 FIFA finals with a 2-1 victory over England in a semi-final match at Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Paris.

Playing without superstar Megan Rapinoe (hamstring), the American team outshot England 10-6 despite the English squad maintaining possession 57% of the match. The UK club also finished the last 11 minutes - including seven in stoppage time - a player short after Millie Bright receiver her second yellow card in the 86th minute and was disqualified. Alex Morgan, celebrating her 30th birthday, broke a 1-1 tie with the go-ahead goal in the 31st minute.

The US advances to a World Cup final for the fifth time and their third consecutive. They will face tomorrow's winner when the Netherlands and Swedes face-off.
