The Sweet Meaning Behind National Doughnut Day
Forget eating your three square meals today. We're going for round -- it's National Doughnut Day.
And if that's not sweet enough, a number of doughnut sellers -- including Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts -- are offering free pastries today!
But the best part for me is the real meaning of National Doughnut Day. According to USA Today, the Chicago Salvation Army established the original day back in 1938. They were looking for a way to thank the women who had served them to American soldiers during World War I.
So eating a doughnut today is the patriotic thing to do -- and you can get one for free. What other reason do you need?
