The Smoking Age Limit for Washington State Is Going to Be 21
Washington state is waiting for Gov. Jay Inslee to sign a law raising the smoking and vaping age limit to 21 in 2020.
This legislation, spearheaded by Attorney General Bob Ferguson, easily passed in the state House and Senate. The law aims to target statewide nicotine addiction prevention efforts.
Washington state has a reputation for being tough on the public nuisance of smoking. In 2005, a law was passed that prevents smoking inside public buildings and locations, including bars and public parks.
