That Time Johnny Depp Filmed a Movie in Spokane, WA!
I've got movies on the brain. It recently began when I heard about the movie Doctor Strange being released very soon in May 2022. Then, I found out about the movie All Sorts (that was filmed in Yakima) being shown at Mercy Theaters. There was even a showing of the movie at Hallet Cinemas in Sunnyside because the film's director, Rick Castañeda, is from Granger.
Now, I'm excited because of two movies, The Batman, which just got released on HBO Max, and the new Dumbledore movie (Fantastic Beasts) is out. It was supposed to star Johnny Depp as Grindenwald, but it seems he got in a little trouble with his wifey, so that didn't get to happen. It still reminds me though, about that time Johnny Depp filmed a movie in Spokane, Washington. Can you remember the name of the movie without looking it up on Google?
The movie in question is Benny and Joon, filmed in Spokane back in the 80s. Or was it the 90s? I don't remember, it's all a blur to me. I barely remember what the movie was even about! I just wish more movies would be filmed all over Washington State, just like Rick Castañeda did!
The cool thing about Rick's movie is that he used movie extras that were from the Lower Valley and Yakima! I wonder how many extras from Spokane were used during the movie filming of Benny and Joon? I do know that the auto mechanic shop and the house one of the main characters lived in are some of the Spokane area tourist attractions that still lingers in the air with excitement to this day.
When you get the chance, go visit these places and take a piece of Hollywood with you. And you, too, can remember that time that Johnny Depp filmed a movie in Spokane, Washington!
