June 19th is Juneteenth. Black Independence Day falls on a Saturday this year.

A bill to make Juneteenth a Washington state legal holiday was introduced back in January to the State Government & Tribal Relations Committee during the regular legislative session in Olympia.

Everyone in the community is invited to Southeast Community Center Park to enjoy the Juneteenth celebration with food, games, NAACP awards, free books for children, basketball tournament, Ms/Mr. Juneteenth pageant and an open mic session.

Even if you are not an African-American, you are hereby invited to the 2-day celebration of freedom, as declared by the Emancipation Proclamation!
