I am the kind of person who loves to sleep in late on my days off from work, so the last thing I plan on doing is going shopping on Thanksgiving Day.

The number of people who want stores closed on Thanksgiving has doubled since last year! In a recent survey by SurveyMonkey , 57% of people don't think stores should open on Thanksgiving.

There are times, however, where a store being open is very convenient, such as when you realize you don't have the right ingredients for your Thanksgiving feast! I think that businesses should be open if they have enough employees who volunteer to work that day, and those employees should receive holiday pay!

I remember when I was a kid growing up in Nashville, TN, and whenever the holidays rolled around, my mom, who was an employee for American Airlines at the local airport, would LEAP at the chance to get paid "time and a half". As a unionized airport employee, my mother was getting paid over $20 an hour. Shewwt, for that kind of dough, I would have been leaping to work the holidays, too!

As a consumer, I am thrilled when I find a store that is open on Thanksgiving, but as an employee, I'd be pretty upset if I had to come in and work on my day off (unless I'm getting paid "time and a half")! HELLO!
