Many people are flocking to the coast of Washington and Oregon this summer but there's something everybody needs to be on the lookout for in the beach water: POOP! We're talking human poop, doggy poop, and bird poop, not to mention the poop sea creatures naturally secrete in the waters.

WHEN THE POOP HITS THE...HOME STATE BEACHES:
My daughter, Willow, is on vacation visiting family in Mississippi and the thing she was looking forward to the most this summer was hitting the beach. When I got to chat with her on the phone about all the fun experiences she was having on the beach she told me that she didn't get to visit the beach right away "because people don't care about the ocean." She's 10 years old so I had to ask her some probing questions to find out what exactly she meant. "There's poop in the water from the casinos," she said. The authorities had to close the beaches down because of the nasty stuff washing ashore, filling the area waters with potentially fatal bacteria. There was also a recent story in the news about Washington state (KIRO 7), Oregon (KPIC), and California (LA Times) beaches being closed for the same reason!

HOW'S ALL THAT POOP GETTING IN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Sometimes the human poop has washed ashore to the beach from casino and cruise ships releasing their human waste dump tanks in the ocean. How is this even a thing and why is it even allowed to happen?!

Other times, there's disgusting doo-doo in the beach water because birds have no manners and crap all over the ocean and because lots of human pet parents aren't picking up "the turds" after their dogs run on the beach. There are also too many cases of parents refusing to teach their kids that it's not okay to take a dump in the ocean.
