No City Labor On Labor Day

Monday is Labor Day 2020. We all at KIT hope that you have been working as close to normal as possible and if you haven't, we hope and pray your situation changes as quickly as possible.

But this Monday most of won't work as the unofficial end to summer arrives  According to History-dot com, "Labor Day 2020  pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers ....created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894."

We have come a long way in protecting workers and improving working conditions since then and how could we not, as grim as it was for many workers back then..

In the late 1800s, "at the height of the Industrial Revolution in the United States, the average American worked 12-hour days and seven-day weeks in order to eke out a basic living. Despite restrictions in some states, children as young as 5 or 6 toiled in mills, factories and mines across the country, earning a fraction of their adult counterparts’ wages."

120 years later we have one last summer vacation.  In the City of Yakima services will be closed Monday, September 7^th, in observance of Labor Day.

City departments such as services located at Yakima City Hall, the Public Works facility and the Y-PAC building will be closed on Monday, September 7^th, in observance of the holiday.

Yakima Transit will not provide bus service Monday.

There will be no City of Yakima garbage pick-up service on Monday, September 7^th. Garbage collection service schedules by the City’s Refuse Division will be delayed by one day next week. Those with service scheduled for Friday, September 11^th, will instead have their garbage picked up on Saturday, September 12^th.

City of Yakima services will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, September 8^th, though City buildings and facilities will remain closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
