It's about time somebody local rounded up a drive-in movie experience back in Yakima! The last time Yakima had a drive-in theater was before I ever arrived in Washington state (I moved to Yakima Valley in 2002). From what I've been told, the drive-in on Fruitvale Blvd in West Valley, owned by James R, Bonholzer, closed down in 1985.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YAKIMA HAD A DRIVE-IN THEATER?

CAN YOU BRING YOUR OWN FOOD TO THE DRIVE-IN MOVIE?

Event organizers encourage everyone to bring their own food, as there will be no food vendors on site. Guests are welcome to use UberEats, GrubHub, DoorDash, and other food delivery services to have food delivered to their car.

HOW MANY CARS CAN I RESERVE AT THE DRIVE-IN MOVIE?

One car per reserved ticket. Car entry opens at 6:30 p.m. and gates will close at 11 p.m.

WILL THERE BE A HALLOWEEN COSTUME CONTEST AT THE DRIVE-IN MOVIE?

Dress up in your favorite Halloween costumes to take part in the costume contest (the prize includes $150!).

WHAT MOVIES WILL BE SHOWN AT THE DRIVE-IN MOVIE?

At 7 p.m. viewers can watch Night of the Living Dead, a film about hungry little Pennsylvanian zombies living their best lives trying to snack on some folks trapped in a barn. When in Rome, I guess. You know, I always thought there was something peculiar about people from Pennsylvania, and now I know why--it's because they are all zombies deep down in their souls! Just kidding, kind of.

DRIVE-IN MOVIE #2: HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL (1959)

Vincent Price looks dashing, debonair, and quite devious if I do say so myself, in this scary film about a dude with a very thin mustache.

LOOK: Things from the year you were born that don't exist anymore

The iconic (and at times silly) toys, technologies, and electronics have been usurped since their grand entrance, either by advances in technology or breakthroughs in common sense. See how many things on this list trigger childhood memories—and which ones were here and gone so fast you missed them entirely.
