Can I get a slow clap for the service industry? I know we are in strange times, but going to the store has turned into a blood sport -- and I don't want this next part to be taken lightly.

There is NO need to be clearing off the shelves. Two weeks of items is all that you need. The grocery stores are not shutting down. But if you're hoarding now, the people you're really hurting are the elderly, who are searching for basic supplies.

To help address that, some local stores are trying to give seniors exclusive shopping times.

  • Safeway will allow only senior shoppers between 7-9 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Target will reserve the first hour of opening for seniors and those with underlying conditions starting at 8 a.m. Wednesdays. (They'll also be shutting down at 9 p.m. to allow time for deep cleaning.)

If you know of more stores going out of their way to assist our seniors and those with compromised immune systems, please let us know and we will keep this updated.
